Abstract

  • Kendari City inflation in May 2019 was recorded at 1.80 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) 131.98. Nationally, from 82 cities that calculated inflation, 81 cities recorded inflation and 1 city recorded deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Tual (Maluku Province) 2.91 percent with 159.00 CPI and the lowest inflation was recorded in Kediri (East Java Province) 0.05 percent with CPI of 130.10.
  • Inflation in Kendari City was caused by an increase in the price index in the foodstuffs group by 7.54 percent; processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco groups 0.11 percent; health group 0.07 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group 0.05 percent; and clothing group 0.20 percent. While the transportation, communication and financial services group experienced a decline in index by 0.30 percent while the education, recreation and sports groups did not experience changes / were relatively stable.
  • Commodities contributing to inflation are bloating / bloating / banyar / gembolo / aso-aso, skipjack / scales, kale, spinach, garlic, rambe, long eggplant, squid, anchovies and yellow tail.
  • Commodities contributing to deflation are mobile credit rates, rice, cooking oil, shampoo, women's leather sandals, biscuits, young jackfruit, chicken eggs, toothpaste and shampoo.
  • Of the eleven cities on Sulawesi Island, all cities recorded inflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Manado (North Sulawesi Province) 2.60 percent with CPI 135.16 and the lowest inflation was recorded in Baubau (Southeast Sulawesi Province) of 0.15 percent with CPI 137.04.
  • The inflation rate of Kendari City in the calendar year (January-May 2019) is 2.72 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (May 2019 to May 2018) is 3.93 percent.
  • The inflation rate for the same period in May 2018 was recorded at 0.96 percent, calendar year (January-May 2018) of 1.36 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate for May 2018 against May 2017 was recorded at 2.63 percent.
