Data Collection of Integrated Food Crop Agricultural Statistics with the KSA Method

January 25, 2019 | BPS Activities

Data Collection of Integrated Food Crop Agricultural Statistics with the KSA Method is a collaborative activity between the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT). The KSA Survey is an activity of monitoring the estimated harvest area based on segment observation data using the Area Sample Framework Method (KSA). The purpose of the activity of Integrated Food Crop Agricultural Statistics Data Collection with Area Sample Framework method is to improve conventional data collection methods to be more objective, scientific, and modern by involving the role of technology in them, so that collected agricultural data becomes more accurate and timely. Data collection of integrated food crop statistics with the Area Sample Framework method is carried out in all regions in Indonesia. The only commodity covered in this activity is rice.

The field implementation of the KSA survey is carried out for the last seven days every month. In January, the KSA survey was conducted from 25 to 31 January 2019. The total sample of North Kolaka allocated by the Central BPS and BPPT was 21 segments of rice fields. KSA Kolaka Utara field officers consist of 4 PCS people who are BPS partners and 1 PMS who is an organic employee. The KSA target is a sample of rice fields with an area of 9 hectares per rice field segment consisting of 9 observation points. The survey was conducted by observing the growth phase of rice plants at each observation point in the segment sample. The observation process is carried out by officers using the KSA application installed on an Android-based cellphone. The results of photoshoots and observations of officers were then sent to the KSA web. The results of shooting the observation segment are then examined by the PMS through the KSA web to check the suitability of the image and the observation phase. The period of examination is the 1st - 5th of the following month. All segments were successfully observed until the end of the observation period. A common obstacle that is often faced at the time of implementation is weather conditions that do not support such as rain. In this condition the officer must wait for the rain to subside to be able to take the observation point.
